The first English biography of Ramana Maharshi was written by B. V. Narasimhaswami in 1930. All subsequent accounts have borrowed heavily from it. Arthur Osborne took the basic life story that Narasimhaswami had published and then elaborated on it by adding additional chapters that explained the teachings and described the atmosphere at Ramanasramam in the later years of Sri Ramana’s life. He also included personal material about his own experiences with Sri Ramana. This book is an ideal first book for those who want to find out about Ramana Maharshi’s life and teachings.

A wonderful book about Ramana Maharshi, with an emphasis on his life (as opposed to a book of teachings). Filled with interesting and unforgettable stories. In particular, I enjoyed the chapters around ashram life, which really gives you a sense for what life was like on a day to day basis. I feel much close to Bhagavan having read this book, and many of the stories give you a sense for his wit and his sense of humor... I couldn't put the book down. And when I was finished, I was tempted to read it all over again.
