Recorded by Paul Brunton and Munagala Venkataramiah
Published by V. S. Ramanan, President, Sri Ramanasramam
While Paul Brunton was staying at Sri Ramanasramam in the late 1930s, he began to compile a book that would feature dialogues with Ramana Maharshi, arranged thematically. Many of the dialogues were copied verbatim from the manuscript that eventually became Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi. However, other sources were also incorporated, including comments recorded by Brunton himself that do not appear anywhere else in the Ramana literature. Since the book takes much of its material from Talks with Sri Ramana Maharshi, Munagala Venkataramiah receives a co-author credit. When Conscious Immortality was first published in the 1980s, it closely resembled the original typed manuscript that was found among Brunton’s papers after he passed away in 1981. A subsequent edition added much material that was not part of this original record. The second edition was out of print for many years. Sri Ramanasramam has now brought out a third edition that goes some way to restoring the original intent of Brunton. In this new and revised printing there is an extensive introduction that outlines the history of the work. It has also been annotated to indicate where Brunton took material from existing sources.
